What is a DPP?

The EU Digital Product Passport, in plain language

A new EU requirement, introduced category by category — here's what it actually means for your business.

What it is

A structured, machine-readable record of a product's composition, sustainability and compliance information — linked to the physical product through a QR code or similar data carrier.

Who needs one

Manufacturers, importers and brands placing covered products on the EU market. The first mandatory category is batteries; more follow under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).

Why it matters

Missing or incomplete passport data can block a product from being placed on the EU market. Getting ahead of your category's timeline avoids a last-minute scramble.

How EUpassportly helps

We check what you already have, tell you honestly what's missing, and help you create, host and maintain the passport as requirements evolve — without you having to become a compliance expert.

Made for your role

Manufacturers

Turn your existing technical files into passport-ready data without hiring a compliance team.

Importers

Bringing in products from outside the EU? We identify exactly what to request from your supplier.

Brands

Private-label and DTC brands get passports that look as good as the rest of their product experience.

Agencies

Manage passports for every client from one dashboard, without duplicating the work.

Frequently asked

Do I need a DPP yet?

It depends on your product category and timeline — some are mandatory soon, others are still pending final rules. Run the free check to see your category's honest status.

What if I don't have all the information?

Start with whatever you have. We show you exactly what's missing and let you fill gaps yourself, request them from a supplier, or come back later — nothing blocks you from starting.

What if my supplier has the data?

Send a secure link — no account needed on their end. Their response goes straight into your product's evidence chain.

Can I start with Excel?

Yes. Upload a CSV or Excel catalogue and we detect your product count before you commit to anything.

Can I export my data?

Always, in JSON, CSV or JSON-LD — your published passports and full data set are yours, no lock-in.

Can I change plans?

Yes, any time, from your billing settings — upgrades and downgrades take effect immediately.

What happens to my passports if I cancel?

Any registration of your passports with the EU that has already been completed remains in place. You will also keep any passports you have previously downloaded. However, if you cancel your subscription, you will lose access to EUpassportly and passports stored on the platform that you have not downloaded will be deleted. You will also stop receiving alerts about regulatory changes, new requirements or additional information that may be needed to keep your passports up to date. DPP requirements evolve over time, and a passport that meets the applicable requirements today may need to be updated in the future. For this reason, we recommend keeping your subscription active for as long as your products continue to be marketed in the EU.

Is my passport registered with the EU?

Yes. EUpassportly does more than generate your Digital Product Passport: we also manage its registration with the corresponding European Union system, so you can have your passport and its associated registration managed from one place. EUpassportly structures the passport with the information and requirements applicable under European regulation and helps you keep it up to date as regulatory requirements evolve.

Where is my data stored?

On Neon (PostgreSQL) with the application on Vercel — see our trust centre for the full subprocessor list.
